New Website Updates:

I am 17 years old and currently live in Raleigh, North Carolina.  However my father has opened the ACE Hardware at Lake Gaston.  We commute to the lake almost every weekend and I have really come to love fishing.  Within the ACE store we provide a bait & tackle section for all your fishing needs.  This section is where I will do most of my work.  As a part of the bait & tackle section, I have created this site to provide information about fishing on the lake.  We have a house on Lizard Creek and I have done a lot of bass and catfishing over the past 3 years.  I haved fished all over the country including 2 trips to Alaska in 2003 and 2006.  On this site I will provide information about fishing on Gaston and provide news and events going on around the lake.

Baits to Use
Topwater and Soft Plastics

Bass are all out of the spawn and have moved to their summer patterns.  Many bass have moved into deeper water and under shady docks to avoid the sun.  In the morning however, the are still several to be taken with topwater baits on mainlake rock and grass.  Heddon Zara Puppy spook is a good choice as well as fishing a frog through the grass.  Once the sun is high and air/water temperatures start to rise, bass are moving under docks, around humps and points on mainlake.  When they go under docks, Yamamoto Senko, Crawfish and Baby Brush Hogs are all good choices.  Many local anglers like to fish them weightless and just let them sink after they throw them as far under the docks as possible.  Many bass will see the lure and hit it on the fall.  Make sure to keep the line tight as the bass will only strike it lightly when the water warms up.  For full details and products, stop in the ACE and ask for Paul, I will be glad to help you.
